On May 6th I packed the car and headed west! I was en route to the beautiful area of Rossport, Co Mayo, deep in the Gaeltacht I didn't have as much 'cupla focal' as I would've liked but the warm welcome I was to receive was to make me feel very much part of the community.
The community of Teach Na Greannai had suffered a very tragic loss of a young child to a farming accident and decided to take a step to not only create awareness on the issue but also to do something fun and engaging for the children.
I was thrilled when Zurich Insurance offered to sponsor the event, having this support makes it possible for me to hit the road and visit more places!
I stayed over in the very charming (and far too comfy), Stag View B&B where Freeda a former Ban an Ti, minded me like her own (of which there is 7!!). The B&B overlooks the amazing Portacloy Beach and was super for an evening stroll.
I spent the next day meeting and chatting with the children. We talked about safety around animals, around slurry, the dangers you would see on a farm, tractors and PTO's and of course for the younger ones, Mr Brambles and the Riverside Farm gang also made an appearance.
Thank you so much to everyone for making me feel so welcome and I look forward to heading west again in the not so distant future!!
